At six years old, Spelling (here with her brother, Randy, who’s five years younger) wants to be an actress and screenwriter. Her father gives her a part on his TV show, Vega$. Hooker starring Heather Locklear andThe Love Boat with Teri Hatcher.

Changing Face
A 16-year-old Spelling goes under the knife for a nose job, according to EW. While it takes the actress years to admit to having plastic surgery, she strongly denies having breast implants. “I lost my baby fat, and people say I got work done instead. But I haven’t. And these [points to chest] are real. It’s Miracle Bra. Not the Wonderbra. Miracle Bra is the real secret.”

Unsuccessful Cover
Spelling uses the alias “Tori Mitchell” when she auditions for the role of Kelly Taylor in her father’s new teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210, but she gets recognized. Jennie Garth wins the role, but Spelling is cast as the earnest virgin Donna Martin. Soon after, Spelling graduates from Westlake School for Girls, a private school in Beverly Hills.

90210 Premieres
Beverly Hills, 90210 premieres on FOX and becomes the most popular show among teens, ranking in the Top 20. The cast – Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Luke Perry, Jason Priestley and Ian Ziering – become teen idols. “I think I’ve finally stopped being ‘Aaron Spelling’s daughter,’” Spelling tells PEOPLE. “The greatest thing is when we go out together and the photographers say, ‘Uh, Tori, could we get some of you alone?’”

Tori’s Torrid First Love
Spelling ends a two-year relationship with live-in boyfriend Nick Savalas, son of Kojak star, Telly. “It was a nightmare,” Spelling tells Entertainment Weekly in 1996. “He was never physically abusive, but he was verbally abusive, telling me 10 times a day how ugly I was.” However, she rebounds by dating a string of actors who appear in her father’s TV shows. “My past record seems to be chiseled pretty-boy actors. I gotta say it: I always pick the ones that are 10 times better looking than me,” she tells Harper’s Bazaar in 1999.
TV Movie Queen
Spelling stars in six top-rated TV movies in less than two years. “I’ve been stalked, raped, murdered, everything,” Spelling tells Playboy in 1998. Father Aaron tells PEOPLE she has a strong work ethic: “She’s more determined than people realize.” According to Village Voicecolumnist Michael Musto, that determination is part of Spelling’s appeal: “Tori epitomizes the plain Jane, who through sheer will and money transformed herself, if not into a swan, then at least into a duck.”

The Ever Virginal Donna Martin
Kelly loses it in 7th grade; Brenda loses it to Dylan in the first season; and even brainiac Andrea loses it in the fourth season, but due to her dad’s edict, Spelling’s90210 character Donna Martin becomes TV’s most famous virgin. Tori’s First Feature
Spelling stars in her first feature film, The House of Yeswith Parker Posey and Freddie Prinze Jr. Although the indie comedy is a Spelling Films presentation, the film’s director Mark Waters insists to Timethat Aaron came aboard long after Tori was cast. The ’90s Fishbowl
90210 comes to an end after 10 seasons, nearly 300 episodes and, for Spelling, years of negative press. “For other young people you can have bad hairdos and no one sees it. Mine live in infamy,” Spelling tellsHarper’s Bazaar. “I was reading the most appalling stuff – ‘she’s ugly,’ ‘she has bug eyes,’ ‘her hair looks like straw.’ I was like ‘Okay, I could use a little conditioner,’ but…God.”

Spelling makes her stage debut in Maybe Baby, It’s You at the Coronet Theater in L.A. She portrays a variety of goofy characters searching for the perfect mate. Spelling produces and stars in the VH1 sitcom, So NoTORIous, as a fictional version of herself. But a source close to the family tells PEOPLE that Spelling’s mother, Candy, feels ridiculed by the unlikable, shopaholic mother-character played by Loni Anderson. “My family knows the mother is not based on my mother,” Spelling tells PEOPLE. “I like the mother-daughter dynamic on the show, because I think it’s a difficult relationship, and that’s something my mother and I have always shared. But that should never be taken as ‘we don’t love each other’.”
A Fiji Wedding
Spelling and McDermott marry on a private tropical island in Fiji. There are no guests at the ceremony, only the barefoot bride and groom. Her new husband says, “I’ve never had as much of a desire to get married and make a woman my wife as I’ve had with her.” McDermott’s ex-wife Eustace considers his remark as “the final nail” and blasts the newlyweds, telling reporters, “It all could have been done so different.”

But according to Tori, Candy’s relationship with Nathanson has “wedged this close family apart.” Tori’s allegations exacerbate her feud with Candy, who denies that Nathanson is anything more than a friend.
Aaron Spelling (1923-2006)

Not an Heiress
A statement from the Spelling family criticizes Tori’s remarks after her father’s death, calling them “hurtful and very disturbing.” A month later, Spelling learns that she and her brother Randy will each receive about $1 million of their father’s $300 million estate. Spelling tellsUSA Today, “My dad was really the glue of our family. The mother-and-daughter dynamic has always been a wonderment to me, and it can be a very difficult dynamic.
