TWILIGHT’S 3 MILLION DVD’S SOLD IN FIRST DAY – WHAT CAN WE SAY?
It is no surprise that Teen girls lined up en masse to take Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart home with them when the Twilight DVD went on sale Saturday.
The highly successful romantic vampire sensation, (previously grossing $380 mil in theaters since Nov 2008), achieved more than 3 million copies of sales in its first day on the shelves, Studio Summit says.
Twilight was propelled into the top five best first-day DVD releases in the last two years, among the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Dark Night, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers. What Can We Say About This?A LOT!
1. Twilight registers with younger hipper audiences worldwide because in a gloabl recession, the sins of our foredaddy’s are zapping away at our veins, while this generation (and the next!) know we all need to pay it back! They’re like, thanks for nothing chumps! So, vampire themes reflect this vibe around the world.
2. The chemistry of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart is one of the best onscreen pairings ever in the history of Hollywood. Individually they are both strong and yet alluring and sexy. Together, their romantic chemistry is ethereal and it sells. Edgy.
3. The Twilight series is a good concept. Although the book series pales in literary caliber when contrasted with Harry Potter… no one minds. It’s how the concept translates well to film, is where the big dollars are being made. Nice transition.
4. The good vs evil narrative of love, is a hot topic in this film. What is good and what isn’t, is they myriad that we all have to decide and walk through in life. Twilight reminds us of this journey. In this economy, what a myriad for tweens to walk through! They’re smarter than us, cos they have no other choice not to be. And Twilight stars are pretty smart, both onscreen and offscreen with their career choices.
5. We can empathize with the characters dilemna. Empathy is a hot commodity.
6. In a recession, young people are gridlocked at getting a start (with the stand out exception being Miley Cyrus in Hollywood for young earning power). With Twilight worthy new talent got through, and tweens dig it. It’s them reflected on screen, at last. Twilight with its young cast, got it right. The tween movie industry grows.
7. Movie goers and DVD buyers have voted. More edgy tween romance films are on their way. It’s very creative! New writers, directors, producers are on their way with new stories. Make way.
8. Young America is emerging through a recession nicely. Bring on New Moon asap! Let’s keep the momentum going!
