TINA DAVIS SPEAKS. CHRIS BROWN HAS ISSUES BEYOND NICKELODEON CULLING!
As a manager, Tina Davis is as protective as a mother of Chris Brown. For the most part of his career, as a typical teenager, Chris Brown just wanted to have a jet ski career, sing make money, be a star, and have all the trappings of stardom. Davis has been overly responsible, while Brown had money at his fingertips to play with and has never had to grow up as an adult male… well, until now!
Being a typical manager, and looking after her own bond with her cash cow (Chris Brown), Tina Davis has responded to the media allegations (those being, that she allegedly is the woman who sent Chris Brown a 3 paged text message that triggered the alleged assault with Rihanna at the hands of Chris Brown on February 8th)… READ ON IF INTERESTED…
Marshall B. Grossman, Davis lawyer, issued this statement on her behalf:
”The relationship between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown is that of manager and client. There has never been any other relationship. The rumors in circulation are false. There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports.
If the source of the false rumors is identified, legal action will be taken. Given the nature of the legal issues affecting Mr. Brown, Ms. Davis will not be making any further statements.”
Basically, Tina Davis leaves the door wide open for speculation, as it was a text message in question of a sexual nature, that upset Rihanna, and not an ‘email’ per se. Davis’ response through her lawyer, does not specifically say ‘text’ it says ‘email’ so she does not comfirm or deny, but she is not falling into the trap of what Rihanna told the police either. It appears to be a Tina Davis stand off with Rihanna, for whatever her reasons are. The lawyer’s statement, is a cold response. Not one of fear, but one where Davis clearly is not going to be bullied either.
THE ISSUES AT HAND FOR TEAM BROWN/ DAVIS: It makes you ask the question… how could Rihanna and Chris Brown have had a fair chance of an unstressful relationship in the first place, when the insecurities of a manager in their normal modus operandi of being ‘a caring manager’ (like Tina Davis) clearly, could possibly have interfered with the couples love life and relationship under ‘a business minded focus’ that was just looking after Brown’s interests and not that of a young couple in love. Brown could have been a good manager, but it could have been stifling the relationship too.
It’s quite possibly a case of meddling, leading to two kids getting messed up and messing up each other. Davis, runs the risk of looking really bad here! She could be perceived that she is just looking out for herself on every level. Brown obviously has been a victim of systemic abuse from others in his life (quite possibly even Davis) before he acted out on Rihanna on February 8th.
If this is the case, then the abuse of kids in show biz must stop! Whether that be, from one popstar to another (like Chris Brown’s fists towards Rihanna) or what no one’s talking about … the escalating cocktail, of an abusive manager, taking all kinds of liberties into the personal boundaries of their talent’s lives and personal relationships!
But before we jump to too many conclusions, there are two possibilities with Tina Davis coming to the fore in the public eye. These being a) and b). Let’s discuss:
a) There’s a lot going unsaid between the unspoken subtext of Tina Davis’ managing involvement in Brown’s personal life. Davis is alleged to have had an affair with Brown when he was 16. She has denied this. Either way, no wonder why Rihanna is hopping mad.
If a) is true… then even if Rihanna and Chris are together or not… Chris Brown perhaps needs a less manipulating and non-abusive manager.
Then of course there is:
b) Tina Davis is a good manager. She never had an affair with her 19 year old client. She perhaps sees, that as a manager Chris Brown totally screwed up hitting Rihanna. She thinks he should just cut his losses from Rihanna, and walk away. Chris Brown does not think so. He’s addicted to being with Rihanna, for the spotlight that she provides him. Up until February 8th, their nearest competitors as an R n B hip hop duo, where Beyonce and Jay-Z (a power couple who earned $160 Million between them last year).
When Brown and Rihanna imploded on Feb 8th, so did the earning potential of RnB’s rising young power duo. That Dream was cooked or almost gone. That was the tragic component to it. The part we all felt sad about, after we got over the horror, anger and shock of the incident. The only thing similar to it, as horrific, is if hypothetically the incident had happened to Jay-Z and Beyonce. Thankfully it did not! But many of us did not realize how big globally Chris Brown and Rihanna are.
Their fascination last year, far outnumbered that of Jay-Z and Beyonce in countries outside of America. Brown for example was the #1 most googled star in New Zealand, with Barack Obama coming in at #2. Rihanna was #5. Brown and Rihanna were on the rise as couple and they knew it. When they imploded, we felt this great sense of tragedy. It is sad!
Even them reconciling and trying to patch it up, is also sad. We have the sinking feeling, Rihanna is going to get hit again. That the couple will not beat the stats of domestic violence histories weighted agains them, that to stay together, is futile. It also angers us sometimes that they are still together.
In Rihanna’s case being Jay-Z’s protege and also garnering more #1 hits last year than Beyonce managed to do, put Rihanna in both a position of success, and also one of possible vulnerability. It was bittersweet for her, and at times I’m sure confusing, as to whose advice she should best listen to, regarding the success of her career. (It just would have sucked to have been Jay-Z at times with two ‘competing’ divas on his hands on the charts, with both Beyonce and Rihanna going head to head). Yet, they are also reported to all be good friends and like a music family.
Like Jay-Z, for Tina Davis, a manager’s job is to see things clearly without emotion, and Davis knows the odds (the public empathy) is stacked in Rihanna’s favor. The more Chris lingers around Rihanna, the more the public will resent Brown for being perceived as bullying Rihanna further.
It’s not called pop for nothing. It’s the music industry of show biz, where the populous decide. Chris’ culling at Nickelodeon kid’s choice awards, is the public’s way of saying they do not want their kids to be a part of the Chris Brown and Rihanna show, any longer.
To even witness Brown in the awards show, was upsetting parents, and they certainly did not want to see Chris Brown parading himself with Rihanna before his felonies court case had been played out in court.
It was not the place to prove a point. Brown may have been able to convince Diddy of that when he asked Diddy to loan him his Miami house to parade around in on a jet ski with Rihanna inside the house, but parents were not having it, at the nation’s awards show, where their kids had the power of choice.
Even though American parents believe in democracy and their kids ability to decide and make choices, the parents were saying to Nickelodeon, “come on! he should not even be an option now.” Nickelodeon were looking very un-kid friendly, going after money, ratings and spectacle at the expense of their existence in the entertainment market for the better interests of healthy kids entertainment.
The Chris Brown debacle at the awards show this year, has clearly revealed that about Nickelodeon’s management of their awards show brand. It’s a recession, but perhaps they did go a bit too far, by still wanting to include Chris in the show.
The parents indicated with their vote, that in their opinion, it’s over between Chris & Rihanna, and the parents that protested to Nickelodeon, won. So perhaps Davis knows that Brown is better off trying to salvage a career without Rihanna.
Anyway, it was a very interesting response through Davis’ lawyer. It raises all of the questions about Managers and their stars as well as Chris and Rihanna’s reported choice to reconcile. What are your thoughts?
Is Chris Brown, just continuing to be an idiot, and Davis is trying to knock some sense into him, reign him back from making even more of an idiot out of himself, like any manager would, when their star is a little crazy? It appears that way. At the moment, Rihanna almost looks like she needs a conservatorship, the way Brown won’t let her go and the way she’s still playing the victim to her advantage. Share your thoughts if you have the time. Voice your opinion too. :)
